ProVision Delivers Integrated Support for Activity Based Methodology (ABM)

Automated Enterprise Architecture Development Technique Saves DoD Time, Ensures Data Quality and Integrity

SOUTHFIELD, MICH. -- June 27, 2006 -- Proforma Corporation, a leading provider of enterprise modeling solutions, today announced support for Activity Based Methodology (ABM). ABM automates enterprise architecture development for projects using the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF). It is available in version 5.1 of the ProVision Federal Edition.

"Proforma is proud to be a partner of the Department of Defense," said Brian James, Proforma vice president of product management. "By enhancing ProVision to support ABM, we are enabling our customers to ensure the quality and integrity of their DoDAF products and thereby rapidly, efficiently and successfully transform detailed Activity Models into actionable architectures."

ABM consists of a tool-independent approach to developing fully integrated, unambiguous, and consistent DoDAF Operational, System, and Technical views in supporting both "as-is" architectures and "to-be" architectures. Created in part by the MITRE Corporation and Lockheed Martin, it is based on a set of DoDAF Operational and System architecture elements aligned to each other from which four Operational and four System architecture elements provide the core building block foundation of integrated architectures.

Using the ProVision Federal edition, DoD architects can derive two Operational Views -the OV-3 and OV-2- from a single OV-5 source with full traceability. The information exchange through ABM delivers consistent and reliable results that translate into significant time savings and efficiencies in the development of DoDAF-based architectures.

In addition, ProVision's Federal Edition contains the only Department of Defense Architecture Repository System (DARS) certified interface. ProVision's interface with DARS drives the DoD one step closer toward its goal to establish net-centric operations, which will enhance data accessibility throughout the department by allowing structured data to be stored in DARS for reuse and decision support. To achieve DARS certification, Proforma demonstrated the ability to import and export DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) products in the Core Architecture Data Model (CADM) XML format, and in turn visualize the products in ProVision.

ProVision exceeds DARS guidelines by supporting eight DoDAF products:

  • AV-1: Overview and Summary Information
  • AV-2: Integrated Dictionary
  • OV-2: Operational Node Connectivity Description
  • OV-3: Operational Information Exchange Matrix
  • OV-4: Organizational Relationships Chart
  • OV-5: Operational Activity Model
  • SV-1: System Interface Description
  • TV-1: Technical Standards Profile

Proforma is an established provider of software and services to the DoD and other federal agencies. Customers such as the OASD, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marines, DISA, the U.S. Forest Service, the IRS, CIFA, and the National Geo Spatial Agency (NGA), rely on ProVision. ProVision is also used by top contracting firms including MITRE, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, Unisys, AMSEC, IBM Global Services, Gartner Consulting, EDS, and Booz Allen Hamilton.
