Metastorm Customer, Kansas Department of Corrections, Receives Leadership in Enterprise-Driven Results Award
BALTIMORE, MD – October 13, 2009 – Metastorm, a leading provider of Business Process Management (BPM), Business Process Analysis (BPA), and Enterprise Architecture (EA) software for aligning strategy with execution, today announced that the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) has received the Leadership in Enterprise-Driven Results Award for its Strategic Technical Architecture Roadmap (STAR) Project. The award was presented by the 1105 Government Information Group as part of the 9th Annual Enterprise Architecture Conference in Washington, D.C.
Utilizing Metastorm ProVision® software and Ken Orr’s Business Enterprise Architecture Modeling (BEAM) methodology, the KDOC STAR project developed as-is and to-be business, data, application, and technology architectures for the entire agency. KDOC also established a strategic 10-year roadmap, based on a “business-first” portfolio view of modernization initiatives that reflects external interfaces to federal, state and local business partners.
Results achieved to date for KDOC’s STAR program include:
- Executive and legislative support of a common vision for agency business process improvement and IT direction.
- A clear, long-term framework in which to view agency plans and programs.
- Increased alignment between business units and IT.
- Increased realization of gaps in technology coverage that can provide significant cost savings in staff scheduling, rostering and time tracking.
- Improved agency-wide understanding of major business processes.
- Increased collaboration.
"Enterprise architecture has evolved into a mature discipline for integrating business strategies with technology. This expanded vision of enterprise architecture fits KDOC’s needs,” said Bill Roth, chief information technology architect for the State of Kansas. “Empowered by comprehensive software like Metastorm ProVision, the department can now understand its current environment and develop a long-range roadmap for enterprise success."
"With the Metastorm ProVision software, we were able to effectively model current business processes along with modeling to-be business, data, application, and technology architectures. This project helped users understand the benefits of developing an enterprise architecture," said Cathy Clayton, manager of application development for KDOC.
