SharePoint 2010 Unites Collaboration with Processes – But Significant BPM Gaps Remain (January 13, 2009)
Microsoft’s SharePoint 2010 unleashed a host of improvements for line of business (LOB), security and compliance, developers, and the data center. But unlike Microsoft SharePoint 2007, which grouped a set of diverse technologies into a single platform, SharePoint 2010 takes dead aim at improving collaborative business processes by connecting people more directly to them and linking SharePoint 2010 with line-of-business apps. Visual Studio, SharePoint Designer, social features, enhancements to Visio, and improved enterprise content management (ECM) all directly benefit LOB process execution by bringing structured and unstructured work together. The SharePoint 2010 platform is not a business process management suite (BPMS), should not replace business BPM suites, and does not provide the needed infrastructure for continuous improvement; however, it does offer improved functionality for uniting Social Computing with business processes and connecting information workers to formerly siloed business processes.

Metastorm Secures Leadership Position and Boasts Strongest Market Presence in the Forrester Wave: Human Centric BPM for Microsoft Platforms (December 19, 2007)
Metastorm is positioned as a leading vendor in Forrester’s Q4 2007 Wave for Human Centric BPM for Microsoft Platforms. The report says, "A long heritage and strong track record in BPM has given way to multiple acquisitions for this vendor. First CommerceQuest brought integration capabilities, and now Proforma is bringing Metastorm complete enterprise architecture (EA) and business process analysis (BPA) modeling to front-end its automation tools. We saw the product only weeks after this acquisition and the company was already able to easily import Proforma models into the execution environment. Look for further integration to allow Metastorm to be one of the first to take advantage of the many synergies between EA modeling and BPM - scenarios like immediately understanding the business impact of a downed server combined with the ability to reroute work to other servers."
