The Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF)

The Department of Defense (DoD) Architecture Framework (DoDAF) provides direction for developing enterprise architectures for DoD warfighter and business operations. The DoDAF is partitioned into three views of an enterprise's business and information technology structure: operational, systems, and technical standards.

The Operational view and its component work products concerns themselves with describing the activities, capabilities, organizations, roles, and data required to execute DoD operations.

The Systems view and its component work products describe the automated components and informational exchanges required to implement the Operational view.

The Technical Standards view and its component work products describe the technical infrastructure that must be in place to implement both the Operational and Systems views.

The three architectural views and their associated work products are inter- and intra-dependent building blocks, requiring a flexible, integrated modeling tool set and an understanding of DoDAF work product precedence.

Metastorm provides support for the use of the DoDAF by providing:

  • A configurable modeling language compatible with DoDAF terminologies, conventions and notations
  • A suite of modeler types that support the integration and development of all DoDAF work products, and
  • Customizable framework mechanism allows you to "switch on" the DoDAF modeling environment

Metastorm provides training and consulting services targeted at the effective development of enterprise architecture work products using the DoDAF.
