Workflow Modeler

Workflow models define a process’ initiating events, its flow of work, the actors responsible for performance, and the resulting deliverables produced by its activities. “As Is” and “To Be” models may be built for purposes of redesigning and improving the process. Once defined in a Workflow model, a process may be simulated to analyze its performance in terms of cost, timing and resource constraints.

The Workflow Modeler is a companion to the ProVision Business Interaction Modeler. A Workflow model gives a more detailed view of a business process, helping you visualize and analyze how multiple departments or organizational units work together by evaluating their internal activities and the passing of deliverables among them.

A Workflow model is a representation of a business process in terms of its component activities, and the flow of work among the activities. A Workflow model concentrates on the flow of work through the business for a single output (i.e., a product or service), or a single input (i.e., the handling of an order). Since processes often cross organizational boundaries, the Workflow model depicts the organizational components performing each activity and the workflow (deliverables and/or events) between the activities.

Process Modeler

Process models define the functional processes and activities of the enterprise. Included in this set of modelers is a Process Modeler to show functional hierarchy, and a Use Case Modeler to show process components and their organizational usage requirements.

Once inventoried and defined, these process components can be used to construct process Workflow models. A process’ Workflow model shows when and how its activities are performed, what inputs they consume, and what outputs they deliver.

Rule Modeler

A Rule model is a hierarchy that organizes the rules expressed within a business domain. Rules may be organized in a variety of ways depending on the categorization scheme used.

A typical categorization scheme organizes rules by target. For example, all customer interaction rules are grouped, as are employee policies, product definition rules, etc. These categories are then arranged in a hierarchy from general to specific. Rule models may be built to mirror a Process model where the top-level rules apply to an entire process, and are then detailed based upon the activities they target.

Rules may also be included in a Strategy model to show influence relationships between rules and other strategic objects.

Deliverable Modeler

A Deliverable model is a hierarchy that organizes the deliverables produced by the business. Deliverables are work products produced by the activities of a process.

Deliverable Models show larger aggregate deliverables that consist of smaller component deliverables. A Deliverable Model places an aggregate deliverable at the highest level in the hierarchy. More specific component deliverables are organized below it. A deliverable may be further detailed by building a Business Class model that represents data components of the deliverable.
