Department of Defense Architecture Repository System (DARS) Initiative
Metastorm has been selected to participate in the Department of Defense Architecture Repository System (DARS) initiative. The objective of DARS is to facilitate the storage and retrieval of DoD architecture data, and to promote a tool diagnostic environment for vendors of Enterprise Architecture tools for the DoD. It ensures that the military services can share and integrate data created in different software programs including Metastorm ProVision® Federal.
Metastorm was invited to participate in the DARS initiative because Metastorm ProVision Federal utilizes an intelligent methodology that provides a cohesive, yet easily adaptable enterprise architecture plan. In addition, Metastorm ProVision Federal provides robust translator support for the XML format, which is an integral aspect of DARS.
The Department's vision for DARS is that it will provide officials with the right information, at the right time, in the right format. Benefits of the standardization include:
- Reuse of data
- Consistency that facilitates integration
- Ability to use tools interchangeably
- Better support for analysis and decision making
DARS is compliant with the DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and utilizes the CADM terminology and data model for defining architecture data. Architectures built in conformance with the DARS CADM XML format allow users to move CADM XML data between COTS products and the DARS in a tool agnostic environment.
